Affiliations

Central Philadellphia Meeting is one local point of Light in a wider constellation of Quaker organizations. We are directly affiliated with some and more loosely associated with others. We provide links to these organizations' websites below.

Direct Affiliations

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM)

Central Philadelphia Meeting belongs to a regional denominational meeting called Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, so-called because it holds its primary business meeting once a year for a week in late July. Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM) is comprised of Quaker meetings in eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

Friends General Conference (FGC)

In its turn, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting belongs to an larger continental denominational organization called Friends General Conference (FGC). FGC holds an annual Gathering each year over the July 4th weekend in a different region of the US and Canada. It also provides spiritual support services of various kinds to Friends and meetings throughout the year.

Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting (PQM)

Central Philadelphia Meeting also belongs to Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting, a gathering of the eight Quaker meetings in Philadelphia. (Called a quarterly meeting because it conducts is business quarterly.)

Friends Select School

Friends Select School is a pre-K–12 Quaker school associated with the meeting but independently incorporated, located at 1651 Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Friends Southwestern Burial Ground

Friends Southwestern Burial Ground is a burial ground under the meeting's care, though independently incorporated, which offers "Simple burials for all in Philadelphia."

POWER

POWER is "an interfaith organization committed to building communities of opportunity that work for all."

Quaker Social Witness Organizations

  • American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)—Founded during World War I, AFSC promotes lasting peace with justice, as a practical expression of faith in action.
  • Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL)—Founded in 1943, FCNL lobbies Congress and the administration to advance peace, justice, opportunity, and environmental stewardship.
  • Quaker Earthcare Witness (QEW)—Quaker Earthcare Witness is a network of North American Friends and other like-minded people who are taking spirit-led action to address the ecological and social crises of the world from a spiritual perspective, emphasizing Quaker process and testimonies.
  • Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP)—Runs workshops in communities and prisons to enable creative, affirming responses to conflict and violence.
  • Right Sharing of World Resources (RSWR)—an independent Quaker not-for-profit organization sharing the abundance of God's love by working for equity through partnerships with women in Guatamala, India, Kenya, and Sierra Leone.
